Green Tea Extract
Posted on: August 25, 2011
Green tea extract is an herbal derivative of the perennial evergreen Camellia sinensis shrub or tree leaf, from which green tea originates. Green tea is cultivated in China and Southeast Asia, as well as the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. While green tea is the unfermented version of Camellia sinensis, oolong and black tea also come from this plant, and differ from green tea only in their production process. Green tea contains antioxidants which may provide some health benefits.http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/green-tea-000255.htm Green tea is used in Chinese medicine for the treatment of flatulence, as a digestive aid, and to promote mental processes, regulate body temperature, blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as to reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes.http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/green-tea/NS_patient-green_tea/DSECTION=evidence
Since green tea is naturally caffeinated, green tea extract is available in regular caffeinated capsules, as well as lightly caffeinated and decaffeinated varieties. A typical dose may consist of one 750mg capsule taken once daily and can be compared to a cup of green tea, containing similar amounts of caffeine and antioxidants.http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item00954/Mega-Green-Tea-Extract-decaffeinated.html Green tea extract can be found at most local health food store as well as at pharmacies and drug stores where herbs and supplements are sold.http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp;jsessionid=JnrcMTpQ1Lp2t4CHQSSwjzVFxJ272mHLyhhh4ZCnF0gH2PyzGBSn!-252374218?filterBy=&skuId=471857&productId=471857&navAction=push&navCount=1&no_new_crumb=true Extract can also be ordered online from Internet stores.http://www.imperialteagarden.com/Green_Tea.html
